About The Camp

For the past 30 years, the pristine wilderness surrounding my safari campsite in Masai Mara has been my true home and the center of my spiritual universe. It is a truly magical place which I believe possesses great calming and healing powers. I love this place passionately and I hope I can always keep it safe and pure My vision has been to maintain Low Impact Tourism that brings income to the community with minimal damage to the environment.

Although for the past 30 years, the Don Young Camp and I have made valuable contributions to the Maasai communities in many ways; training and employment in tourism, contributions to local schools and medical facilities, and direct payments to communities in the form of bed-night fees. However, new government regulations stipulate that each camp lease must produce an optimal amount of value for local communities and local government. The demand is now foreach camp place a higher emphasis on volume rather than high-end quality.

We understand the need to make conservation pay for itself and make the switch from High Value/Low Impact to Volume for Maximum Revenue to Communities.

But I now have 3 kids to raise, books to write, and my work as an archaeologist to enjoy, so I only want to guide old friends and guests who are kindred spirits recommended by friends. But I also want to generate enough income to contribute in a meaningful way to community conservation. So here’s the deal;
