Experience Safari the Way it Should Be
Beginning February 2026, Donald Young Safaris, Ltd. will dedicate 100 days each year where all proceeds from the Don Young Camp are donated to local Maasai families in support of Community Conservation.
The 100 days will include dates in both ‘Migration Season’ and ‘Green Season,’ so you can choose the more popular time during the wildebeest migration (March/April/May/), or the equally beautiful times when the wildlife is still abundant but the massive herds of wildebeest (and people) are elsewhere (January-May).
Don Young Camp is a classic traditional East African tented camp designed and built by Don Young to combine the romantic comforts of the ‘Golden Age of Travel’ with modern conveniences such as solar lighting, en-suite hot showers and flush toilets. We do have WiFi, but in a separate “Media Tent” set away from the main public areas so we can keep wild Africa wild!
Add to these comforts: delicious food served in the most romantic atmosphere possible by our kind and attentive hospitality team, and a selection of excellent wines and top-shelf liquors (available at extra cost), and you will experience safaris the way they were meant to be. And of course, you will be hosted and guided by our fantastic driver/guides who represent the most dedicated and knowledgeable safari experts in the Mara, selected and trained by Don Young.
Although Don Young will not personally be hosting the camp and guiding the game drives, our incredible Guide Team and Hospitality Team will maintain the standards that Don Young has taught them over many years.
Don Young will still use the camp for his exclusive private groups and his family, to maintain the highest quality of the camp and the superlative experience of our guests.
"30 years ago, my old friend Ntokos Naurori, Senior Elder of the Naurori clan, brought me to a beautiful section of forest along the banks of the Olare Orok River, in the heart of the Masai Mara. Mzee Naurori presented me with 30 acres which he had already registered with the Narok County Council as “Don Young Camp.”For many years, my campsite was the only camp in the area, and I dedicated myself to preserving it as my home in the wild and a beloved safari experience for many hundreds of my guests over the years as well.
I still love every minute of safari life, but I want to cut back on my time hosting guests in order to have more time with my young kids as well as continuing my research exploration and writing.
To help maintain a high level of support for community conservation, we decided the best option is to simply make the camp available for lodge-style booking on-line and donate that money to the community. In this way, I hope to share this wonderful heritage camp with a larger public whose stay with us will contribute to keeping the Mara the same beautiful and wild place I fell in love with decades ago."
